Willington Music Education Program

The philosophy of Willington’s music education program is to guide all students to become progressively more knowledgeable about and sensitive to the elements of music.  Through the systematic and analytical study of music, students will be provided with experiences that lead to greater musical as well as intellectual and personal growth.  These experiences will develop students’ mental discipline, creative problem-solving ability, attentiveness, cooperation, personal reflection, and curiosity.  At all levels of instruction, a major focus of study is on the expressive organization of sounds through the interrelations of pitch, duration, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture, form and style.  Students will develop an understanding of the elements of music through singing, moving, playing instruments, listening, and creatingEach student will be provided with the opportunity to be an active participant in the decision-making process, so that he or she will be able to function independently in performing, creating, and analyzing music.
